ICP31215 Cert III in Printing


This qualification applies to individuals working as print machinists who typically set up and operate Digital Printing machines and work on a range of printed products. They prepare material, monitor and run equipment and machinery and apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems. They may also provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

Assessment Method

A range of assessment strategies are employed for this training program and the choice of strategy is dependent on the nature of the unit of competency. Strategies include demonstrations, observation, projects, presentations, knowledge tests, self assessments, reports and interviews.

Materials Required - All students must have access to a workplace that has personal protective equipment in place, including appropriate head attire and suitable tools of the trade, software, a computer and Internet access.

Education Pathways - After successful completion of this qualification, students may gain access to higher level qualifications in the printing and Graphic Arts Training Package or University programs.

Course Credit - Students may seek to have a unit(s) of competency formally recognised by transfer credit or recognition of prior learning RPL. Duration of study may be Shortened where credit(s) are obtained.

NSW Fees and Funding - The student fees for apprenticeship qualifications are capped at $2000. Under the fee free apprenticeships strategy, eligible apprentices that commence training on or after 1 July 2018 will be fee free. You may be eligible for fee free apprenticeship training, contact RTA to discuss your eligibility.

Who is a Candidate for an apprenticeship - Apprentices in the Printing industry include experienced workers who have not achieved a trade qualification, School based apprentices & young people new to full time work. RTA is managing apprentices of all ages and most of our learners are mature age workers. Typically these people have many years of experience in the industry and have never had the opportunity to gain a trade qualification.
We encourage employers to consider staff for a qualification who are mature age and have gained skills on the job. Recognition of Prior Learning RPL can be applied to shorten the study period for these people. The Printing Qualification is currently classed as skills shortage (priority one). The government assistance in the form of funded courses and incentive programs, is designed to increase the number of qualified people in the industry and maintain skills levels into the future.
